The Oakland Raiders have traded a lot of their 2012 NFL Draft away

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Draft Report by admin on Sunday 15 April 2012 at 9:29 pm

The Raiders don’t pick until the 3rd round in the 2012 NFL Draft and they only have five overall picks.  They are going to likely take the best player available when their pick comes up.  Here is who I saw the Raiders getting in my mock 2012 NFL Draft, which can be found on bloglockers.com:

3. (95) Ladarius Green, TE, Louisiana-Lafayette

4. (129) Devon Wylie, WR, Fresno State

5. (148) Vick Ballard, RB, Mississippi State

5. (168) Derek Dennis, OG, Temple

6. (189) Emil Igwenagu, FB, Massachusetts

The Oakland Raiders have had a rough off-season so far

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 12 April 2012 at 1:42 am

The Oakland Raiders have lost way more talent then they have brought in so far this off-season.  Here is a look at what they have added so far:

Offensively:  The Raiders have not done much offensively since free agency has begun.  They have signed OG Mike Brisiel and they have re-signed OT Khalif Barnes, and I like both of those moves.  The Raiders also dealt OT/OG Mike Campbell to the Panthers for RB/KR Mike Goodson.  I hope the Raiders don’t think Goodson can replace Michael Bush who signed with the Bears.

Defensively:  The Raiders used the franchise tag to bring back safety Tyvon Branch for 2012.  The Raiders have signed OLB Philip Wheeler to replace Kamerion Wimbley, who they released and that will be a downgrade.  The Raiders added DE Dave Tollefson and he should help them a little bit with the pass rush.  The Raiders have also signed CBs Patrick Lee, Ronald Bartell and Shawntae Spencer to help rebuild that position.

GRADE SO FAR THIS OFF-SEASON:  D-

The Oakland Raiders sign OLB Philip Wheeler

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 31 March 2012 at 6:08 pm

The Oakland Raiders have signed 27-year old OLB Philip Wheeler to a 1-year deal.  Wheeler played in 13 games for the Colts last year and he had 84 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 2 tackles for a loss.  He has now played in 61 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 220 tackles, 2 sacks, 7 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles and 2 passes defensed.  Wheeler is a decent LB, but he won’t be able to replace Kamerion Wimbley as a pass rusher.

The Oakland Raiders acquire RB Mike Goodson from the Panthers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Saturday 31 March 2012 at 12:28 am

The Raiders have acquired 24-year old RB/KR Mike Goodson from the Carolina Panthers for 23-year old G/T Bruce Campbell.  Goodson played in 4 games for the Panthers last year but he only touched the ball on special teams as he returned 11 kickoffs for 250 yards (22.8 avg).  Goodson has played in 28 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 125 times for 501 yards (4.0 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He has also caught 43 passes for 329 yards (7.7 avg) and he has returned 76 kickoffs for 1,650 yards (21.7 avg).  Goodson will help the Raiders try to replace Michael Bush, who left to sign with the Bears.  Bruce Campbell played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Raiders last year.  He played in 14 games (0 starts) in his two years with the Raiders.  The Raiders shouldn’t miss Campbell too much going forward.

The Oakland Raiders sign CB Patrick Lee

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 21 March 2012 at 7:45 pm

The Raiders have signed 28-year old CB Patrick Lee to a 1-year deal.  Lee played in 16 games for the Packers last year and he had 10 tackles.  Lee has now played in 32 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 21 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  This was a good pickup for the Raiders as Lee will provide depth at corner while getting most of his work on special teams in 2012.

The Oakland Raiders re-sign OT Khalif Barnes

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 21 March 2012 at 7:43 pm

The Raiders have signed 29-year old OT Khalif Barnes.  Barnes played in 16 games (all starts) for the Raiders last year.  He has now played in 38 games (21 starts) in his first three years with the Raiders.  This was a good move for the Raiders as Barnes has been improving each year with the team.

The Oakland Raiders sign CB Shawntae Spencer

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 19 March 2012 at 9:44 pm

The Raiders have signed 30-year old CB Shawntae Spencer.  Spencer played in 9 games for the 49ers last year and he had 5 tackles.  Spencer has now played in 98 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has 345 tackles, 11 interceptions (one returned for a TD), 58 passes defensed, 6 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.  The Raiders need help at corner, so this signing makes some sense.

The Oakland Raiders release OLB Kamerion Wimbley

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 17 March 2012 at 9:00 pm

The Raiders have released 28-year old OLB Kamerion Wimbley.  Wimbley played in all 16 games for the Raiders last year and he had 63 tackles, 7 sacks, 7 tackles for a loss, 1 interception and 3 passes defensed.  He played in 32 games in his two years with the Raiders and he had 121 tackles, 16 sacks, 10 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception and 4 passes defensed.  This creates a huge hole on the Raiders’ D as Wimbley was by far the best pass rusher on the team.

The Oakland Raiders sign OG Mike Brisiel

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 17 March 2012 at 8:25 pm

The Raiders have signed 29-year old OG Mike Brisiel to a 5-year, $20 million dollar deal.  Brisiel played in 13 games (all starts) for the Texans last year.  He has now played in 50 games (47 starts) in his first six years in the NFL.  This was a good move for the Raiders as Brisiel is a rock solid guard, who will likely start for them for a long time.

The Oakland Raiders sign CB Ronald Bartell

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 17 March 2012 at 8:22 pm

The Raiders have signed 30-year old CB Ronald Bartell to a 1-year, $3 million dollar deal.  Bartell played in only 1 game for the Rams last year and he had 1 tackle.  Bartell has now played in 89 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 311 tackles, 8 interceptions (one returned for a TD), 57 passes defensed, 10 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 9 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.  This was a good signing for the Raiders as Bartell is a solid player when he’s healthy.  He will likely start in the place of the departed Stanford Routt (he signed with the Chiefs).
