The Oakland Raiders re-sign Charlie Frye

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Monday 15 March 2010 at 7:30 pm

The Raiders have re-signed 28-year old QB Charlie Frye to a 1-year, $1.226 million dollar deal.  Frye played in 3 games for the Raiders last season in which he completed 53 of 87 passes (60.9%) for 581 yards with 1 TD pass and 4 INTs (65.3 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 4 times for 41 yards (10.3 ypc) last year for the Raiders.  It will be interesting to see if Frye is the #3 QB again in 2010 or if he will move up the depth chart a little bit.

The Oakland Raiders acquire OLB/DE Kamerion Wimbley from the Browns

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Sunday 14 March 2010 at 6:25 pm

The Raiders have acquired 26-year old OLB/DE Kamerion Wimbley from the Cleveland Browns for a 3rd round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Wimbley played in 16 games for the Browns last season in which he made 69 tackles, he had 6.5 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, he forced 1 fumble and he defensed 1 pass.  Wimbley has now played in 63 games in his NFL career in which he has made 248 tackles, defensed 4 passes, he has 26.5 sacks, he has forced 7 fumbles and he has a interception.  The Raiders are looking to start Wimbley at DE opposite of Richard Seymour.  But unless Wimbley adds some weight to his frame (he is 6’3″, 255 pounds) he could have some trouble dealing with tackles.  Still a player with the upside of Wimbley was well worth a third round pick.

The Oakland Raiders release Gerard Warren

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 11 March 2010 at 9:18 pm

The Raiders have released 31-year old DT Gerard Warren.  Warren played in all 16 games for the Raiders last season and he made 35 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, he had 2 sacks and he defensed 1 pass.  He played in 44 games in three years with the Raiders in which he had 96 tackles, defensed 3 passes, had 10 sacks and he forced 2 fumbles.  Due to the Raiders’ performance against the run last season I look for them to gut the entire interior of the defense and Warren was the first to go.

The Oakland Raiders release Javon Walker

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Tuesday 9 March 2010 at 12:58 am

The Raiders have released 31-year old WR Javon Walker.  Walker played in 3 games for the Raiders and he didn’t catch any passes.  All Walker did last season was return 1 punt for 0 yards for the Raiders in 2009.  Walker played in 11 games in his two years with the Raiders and he caught 15 passes for 196 yards (13.1 avg) with 1 TD grab.  This is no loss for the Raiders as Walker has been a bust since signing with them two years ago.

The Oakland Raiders release DE Greg Ellis

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Tuesday 9 March 2010 at 12:55 am

The Raiders have released 34-year old DE Greg Ellis.  Ellis played in 14 games for the Raiders last season and he made 29 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, he had 7 sacks, forced 2 fumbles and he defensed 1 pass.  Ellis was a decent player for the Raiders last season but his age probably was a huge factor in the decision to release him.

The Oakland Raiders release Justin Fargas

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 7 March 2010 at 7:19 am

The Raiders have released 30-year old running back Justin Fargas.  Fargas played in 12 games for the Raiders last season and he carried the ball 129 times for 491 yards (3.8 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also caught 17 passes for 113 yards (6.6 avg) last season for the Raiders.  Fargas played in 92 games for the Raiders in his career in which he carried the ball 827 times for 3,369 yards (4.1 ypc) with 10 TD runs and he also caught 77 passes for 523 yards (6.8 avg).  The Raiders will gave all of Fargas’ carries to Darren McFadden and Michael Bush in 2010.
