The Oakland Raiders need Sebastian Janikowski to be more accurate in 2007

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Sunday 5 August 2007 at 1:33 pm

With the Raiders probably not having an explosive offense in 2007 they need Janikowski to make most of his field goals which is something he didn’t do last season.  Janikowski made only 72% of his field goals last season and he converted all 16 of his extra points to finish the season with only 70 points.  Janikowski hit 12 of 15 field goals of 39 yards or less and he was 6 for 10 on kicks of 40+ yards.

Janikowski has now played in 109 NFL games and he has scored 711 points for an average of 6.5 points per game.  He has now hit 156 of 201 career field goal attempts (77.6%) and he has nailed 243 of 245 extra points.

The Oakland Raiders cut Randal Williams

Williams returned to the Raiders on Thursday but it didn’t matter.  They decided to go in a different direction as they cut him loose.  He won’t be missed this season as the Raiders have reloaded at the position.

The Oakland Raiders waive OT Adrian Klemm

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Saturday 4 August 2007 at 1:27 pm

The Raiders took one look at offensive tackle Adrian Klemm and they determined that they already have a lot of better linemen than him.  That’s really saying something so it might be hard for Klemm to catch on with another team this season.

The Oakland Raiders waive three players

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Thursday 2 August 2007 at 3:40 pm

The Oakland Raiders have waived RB ReShard Lee, QB Cody Pickett and DE Bill Swancutt.  Lee got himself an injury settlement as he was not 100% in Training Camp.  Pickett was expendable the day that the Raiders signed Daunte Culpepper.  Swancutt just failed to impress in his short time in Silver & Black.  None of these players will likely be missed at all by the Raiders.

Tight End Randal Williams leaves the Oakland Raiders

Blogged under Big Raider News,Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Thursday 2 August 2007 at 3:32 pm

It appears as though Randal Williams has quit on the Oakland Raiders as he walked out of camp.  Williams played in 16 games (10 starts) last season and he caught 28 passes for 293 yards (10.5 avg) with 0 TDs.  The Raiders don’t seem to worried about when or if Williams will come back as they have already given his number to Tony Stewart.

The Oakland Raiders sign offensive tackle Adrian Klemm

The Oakland Raiders have signed offensive tackle Adrian Klemm to a 1-year contract.  Klemm missed all of last season with the Packers due to injury but the Raiders should be signing an offensive lineman with a pulse and Klemm qualifies.  In his 6-year NFL career Klemm has played in 42 games (18 starts).  Klemm has the size at 6’4″, 318 pounds to help the Raiders and he will have all of Training Camp to prove what he can do.  This was a nice low risk/high reward signing by the Raiders.

The Oakland Raiders sign Daunte Culpepper

The Raiders have signed Daunte Culpepper to a 1-year contract.  The Raiders felt they had to sign another veteran quarterback to protect them against JaMarcus Russell having an extended holdout.  Culpepper had a bad year in Miami last season and it was cut short by his troublesome knee.  He played in 4 games (all starts) and he completed 81 of 134 passes (60.4%) for 929 yards with 2 TD passes and 3 interceptions (77.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 10 times for 20 yards (2.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.

Culpepper has had a pretty good NFL career to this point but most of his good years were with Randy Moss at WR.  Culpepper has played in 85 games (84 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 1,759 of 2,741 (64.2%) passes for 21,091 yards with 137 TD passes and 89 interceptions (90.8 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 464 times for 2,496 yards (5.4 ypc) with 30 TD runs.

It will be interesting to see if Culpepper has anything left as he looked like he was toast last season in Miami.  Culpepper is not a good pocket passer so keep your eyes on his bad knee.  If it’s giving him any trouble at all he won’t be productive for the Raiders this year.
