3. (65) Quentin Moses, DE

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by dawgpounded on Saturday 26 May 2007 at 3:08 pm

The Oakland Raiders had to be shocked to see Quentin Moses available to them in the 3rd round.  He’s a little on the small side at 6′4″, 249 pounds but he is lightning fast as he runs a 4.6 40.  Moses will have trouble defending the run, but he is a missile coming in after the opposing QB.  Moses played in 51 games (26 starts) at Georgia, and he made 137 tackles, 44.5 tackles for a loss, had 25 sacks, batted down 3 passes, forced 1 fumble and recovered 3 fumbles.  Moses was an excellent pick by the Raiders as many experts had him projected to go in the 1st round.

The Oakland Raiders sign WR Travis Taylor

The Raiders have signed Travis Taylor to a 1-year contract.  He’s a decent #2 or #3 WR so he should help the Raiders this season.  In 16 games last season with the Minnesota Vikings, Taylor caught 57 passes for 651 yards (11.4 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Over his NFL career, Taylor has played in 100 games and he’s caught 311 passes for 4,013 yards (12.9 avg) with 22 TD grabs.  This was a nice low risk/high reward signing for the Raiders.

2. (38) Zach Miller, TE

The Raiders haven’t used the tight end much the last few years in the offense, but that is about to change.  Zach Miller has good size at 6′4″, 255 pounds.  Miller also is a good blocker in the running game, but he doesn’t have great speed (4.8 40).  Still, Miller is a warrior and he plays hard every down.  While he can’t run away from defensive players, he is a really good receiver that should help out the Raiders QBs as he does most of his work over the middle and he has excellent hands.  In 35 games (all starts) at Arizona State, Miller has caught 144 passes for 1,512 yards (10.5 avg) with 14 TD grabs.  Miller should be a starter from day #1 for the Raiders and he was a very solid pick.

The Oakland Raiders re-sign RB ReShard Lee

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by dawgpounded on Wednesday 9 May 2007 at 4:15 pm

The Raiders have re-signed running back ReShard Lee to a 1-year contract.  He played in all 16 games (3 starts) last season for the Raiders and he carried the football 21 times for 72 yards (3.4 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He also caught 20 passes for 138 yards (6.9 avg).  Lee returned 4 kickoffs for 49 yards (12.3 avg) as he was a very busy boy last season.  Look for more of the same this year for Lee even though he’s buried on the depth chart.

The Oakland Raiders claim C Ben Claxton off of waivers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by dawgpounded on Wednesday 9 May 2007 at 4:09 pm

The Oakland Raiders have claimed Ben Claxton off of waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.  Claxton didn’t play in a game last season for the Falcons and he’s only played in 2 games in his NFL career.  Claxton does have good size at 6′2″, 301 pounds so he will likely get a chance to make the Raiders roster, but don’t expect much out of him.
