The Steelers gave this football game to the Raiders.  The Raiders were out-gained 360-95 and still won the game thanks to Ben Roethlisberger.  The Raiders scored 2 TDs on interception returns, one was a 24-yarder by Nnamdi Asomugha and the other was a 100 yard return by Chris Carr.  Andrew Walter had another bad game, completing just 5 of 14 passes for 51 yards and an interceptions.  Justin Fargas carried the ball 18 times for 55 yards (3.1 ypc).  Lamont Jordan carried the ball 7 times for 21 yards (3.0 ypc).  Randy Moss caught 2 passes for 20 yards.  Jerry Porter finally caught his first pass of the season, a 19-yarder.

CB Nnamdi Asomugha had 9 tackles and returned an INT for a TD.  LB Kirk Morrison had 9 tackles and an interception.  CB Fabian Washington had 3 tackles and an INT.  DT Derrick Burgess had 2.5 sacks.  The Steelers carried the ball 28 times for 89 yards (3.2 ypc).  The Steelers completed 25 of 37 passes for 271 net yards passing.

Raiders by the numbers

The Raiders offense has been pathetic all season and is only averaging 12.0 points per game.  The Raiders are running the ball well, averaging 116.0 yards rushing per game and 4.4 yards per carry.  The Raiders passing game has been awful, averaging just 140.7 net yards passing and only completing 47.2% of their passes.

The Raiders defense isn’t all that bad allowing 22.5 points per game.  Alot of those points have scored because of short fields set up by the Raiders offense.  The Raiders run defense does allow 132.5 yards rushing per game, but only 3.9 yards per carry.  The pass defense has been pretty solid allowing only 140.5 net yards passing and 58.6% completions.

Raiders vs. Steelers

Blogged under Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 25 October 2006 at 3:15 pm
The Pittsburgh Steelers are free-falling in the standings as they have lost four of their last five games and have looked bad doing it.  The Oakland Raiders are feeling full of confidence after winning their first game last week 22-9 against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Steelers offense has finally awoke after sleep-walking for the first 4 weeks of the season.  The Steelers have rolled up 83 points the last two weeks.  Look for the Steelers to run the ball alot this week against a Raider defense that is allowing 132.5 yards rushing per game.  Willie Parker needs to have a good game, as he hasn’t looked like the same running back he was last season.  Ben Roethlisberger has returned to practice and probably will give it a go this week.  Roethlisberger has looked real good the last two weeks after sucking before that.  Charlie Batch has been outstanding at QB, and the Steelers probably wouldn’t miss Roethlisberger too much if Batch had to play.  WR Hines Ward finally decided to do something this season and had a good game against the Falcons.  The Raiders pass defense has been pretty good this season only allowing 140.5 yards passing per game.

The Raiders would prefer to run the football with LaMont Jordan (314 rushing yards) and/or Justin Fargas (230 rushing yards).  Jordan has been bothered by a back problem, so Fargas will probably at least split time with him.  If the Raiders can protect Andrew Walter, the Raiders can have some success throwing against the Steelers vastly over-rated defensive backs.  Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is the only above-average player in the Steeler secondary.  Randy Moss (24 rec, 351 yards) and Ronald Curry could have success down the field in Walter has time.  The Raiders also could take a page out of the Falcons playbook at throw frequently to huge TE Courtney Anderson (11 rec, 162 yards).

The Steelers should win this game easy, but, they have to play a complete football game.  The Raiders will be sky-high at home, and coming off of a victory.
