The Raiders have a tight end?

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Saturday 5 August 2006 at 11:49 pm

The Raiders very rarely use the tight end as a receiver in their offense.  The Raiders always want to throw the ball downfield, and they don’t have a TE that can do that.

Courtney Anderson is the starter and he’s usually good for one or two catches a game.  He has played in 23 games (17 starts) and has caught 37 passes for 478 yards (12.9 avg) with 4 TDs.

Randal Williams is even less of a factor than Anderson.  He has played in 51 games (6 starts) and has caught 14 passes for 178 yards (12.7 avg) and zero TDs.

Raiders stacked at receiver

Randy Moss is still a dominant receiver that can go for six on any play.  He has great speed, size, hands and concentration.  Moss has been in the NFL for 8 seasons and has went over 1,000 yards receiving 7 times.  He also has six seasons of 10 of more TDs.  Moss has played in 125 games (119 starts) and has caught 634 passes for 10,147 yards (16.0 avg) with 98 TDs.  He also has run the ball 23 times for 159 yards (6.9 avg) and has completed 4 of 8 passes for 106 yards with two TDs and 1 INT for a QB rating of 95.8.

Jerry Porter wants out of town, but he still is the other starting receiver in Oakland until they do something.  Porter has elite speed, but he has never turned into the complete receiver many thought he would be.  Porter has played in 85 games (46 starts) and has caught 239 passes for 3,215 yards (13.5 avg) and 24 TDs.

Doug Gabriel will start if Porter is traded, but will be #3 if he stays.  Gabriel is on the way up, as he has a nice blend of speed and toughness.  Gabriel has played in 42 games (7 starts) and has caught 71 passes for 1,122 yards (15.8 avg) and 5 TDs.

Ronald Curry was an emerging receiver until he blew out his knee last season.  Reports are good on him coming out of Training Camp.  Curry will catch alot of passes this season as the #3 or #4 WR.  Curry has played in 31 games (5 starts) and has caught 57 passes for 722 yards (12.7 avg) with 6 TDs.

I’m serious here…..

On November 6th, the Raiders are going to go up to Seattle and stay close enough to cover the spread.  I’m not calling for a road victory, just a cash victory.  The Raiders are 7-2 ATS against the Seahawks as of late.  The Seahawks could be looking ahead to their showdown with the Rams the following week and be in for a battle with the Raiders.

Which Sebastian Janikowski will show up this year?

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 3 August 2006 at 8:43 am

Something must have been wrong with Janikowski last season as he had his worst year in the league.  He only hit 66.7% of his field goals and only 7 of 15 over 40 yards.  He’s better than that, and if he gets his head on straight he should rebound beacuse he still has a strong leg.

Janikowski has hit 78.4% of his field goals for his career and has averaged 6.89 points per game.

Jordan to break out!

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 1 August 2006 at 4:47 pm

Lamont Jordan finally got out of Curtis Martin’s long shadow and got off the bench.  He ran well gaining 1,025 yards and he caught 70 passes.  The question now is….what will he do for an encore?  I have a feeling that he was just getting started last season and that this will be his breakout year.  If Brooks finds his receivers, namely Randy Moss, and loosens up the defense then Jordan will dominate with his power running.  Jordan doesn’t make tacklers miss but he tries to bruise them up and wear them down late in the game.  Jordan has played in 76 games (14 starts) and has rushed for 2,302 yards (4.3 ypc) and 19 TDs.  He also has caught 120 passes for 980 yards (8.2 avg) and three TDs.

Justin Fargas (aka “Huggy Bear’s son) is trying to make a name for himself.  I find it hard to take him seriously until he puts up some numbers because I keep thinking of the pimp on the original Starsky and Hutch.  Anyways, Fargas is looking good in camp and is solidly the number 2 running back on the roster.  He has played in 36 games (1 start) and rushed for 357 yards (4.5 ypc) and a TD.  He has also caught 14 passes for 79 yards.

RaShard Lee is currently the third string running back.  Lee has never really risen about his current status.  Lee has played in 21 games (1 start) and rushed for 144 yards (3.8 ypc) and a TD.  He also has caught 2 passes for 9 yards.

Rod “He Hate Me” Smart is the #4 back and he might get to return some kicks too.  He has a cool nickname (from the XFL) but he has very little talent as a running back.  Smart has played in 53 games (no starts) and rushed for 67 yards.  He also has caught 2 passes for 16 yards.
